Totally New to MP3

Okay, I have to confess that I am majorly unaware of most technological advances, at least until they're yesterday's news. But my gearhead husband just bought an MP3 phone for me and now to justify his expense I'd better fill it up with cool music! LOL What's the best way to do that? Can I just download it straight from my computer or what?

Depends on the phone, some phones require you to download music from their exclusive service, others allow you to "Sync" to your PC and download songs from your current music playlists. Most music purchased from select services onto your computer, however may have proprietary encryption on the MP3s that make you pay extra to transfer the songs to a non proprietary device. For example, iTunes downloads, under normal circumstances, cannot be downloaded to just any MP3 player phone (except the iPhone), Rhapsody claims more versitility but since I have iPods and an iPhone, I haven't used the service myself. Most songs ripped from a CD onto your computer, however, can usually be transferred without any trouble using your software provided by the phone or MP3 player. I hope this helps.
